Hermann Park Conservancy invites you and your family to join us at the long-awaited debut of the Commons. We hope to see you there!

About The Commons

The Commons is located in a 26-acre area in the southwest portion of Hermann Park, bordering the Houston Zoo to the east, Cambridge Street to the south, Fannin and Main Streets to the west, and Hermann Park’s Japanese Garden and McGovern Lake on the north / northwest side.

While this sizeable portion of the Park includes a natural point of entry into the Park, it was under-utilized and virtually ignored by the public, creating congestion and over-utilization in other parts of the Park. Our objective for the Commons, and our master plan, is simple: to ensure that the Park becomes an even more valuable place for all the citizens of Houston in the years ahead, contributing to the quality of life and serving as a place that unifies our community for all the years to come.

Event Details

Enjoy fun festivities throughout the morning as you and your family explore the new Commons! The opening ceremony and ribbon cutting will begin at 9 a.m. in the restored historic pavilion, now known as Wortham Pavilion.

Parking

Parking is available throughout Hermann Park on a first-come, first-serve basis, excluding the few lots that are reserved for other events in the Park. The Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza Garage (Winpark), located at 6400 Fannin Street which is across the street from the Commons site, is also a recommended option for close parking. There is a fee to park in this garage.

Due to the expectation that the Park will be very busy this weekend, we encourage visitors to use METRO public transit that is available adjacent to the Commons site, such as the bus and rail. We will also have a bike valet near the Commons site, courtesy of BikeHouston.
