In its almost 100 year history, Hermann Park has hosted many exciting events. Promising to continue this tradition, the newly formed HPC Garden committee presented the first annual Bob and Elyse Lanier Awards Luncheon benefiting the beautification of the Park Thursday, March 13, 2008.
Much like New York's Central Park Conservancy "hat luncheon," the event honored an individual who has shown leadership, generosity, and commitment to the Park. Along with Evening in the Park, the luncheon is certain to become one of Houston's signature events.

The Houston Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Houston Audubon Society, The Park People, the Outdoor Nature Club’s Ornithology Group, Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy, Hermann Park Conservancy and other groups, held a Bird Walk on October 20, 2007, as part of a program of activities in connection with the Birds and Bayous initiative.
In September, the Japanese Garden Advisory Committee (JGAC) of
Hermann Park Conservancy and the Houston Parks and Recreation Department welcomed
Mr. Terunobu Nakai and Mr. Hiroshi Iwasaki to Houston. One of the foremost landscape architects working in
Japan today, Mr. Nakai came to Houston to assist the JGAC in designing
a restoration plan
for the garden.
