Litter removal is the single most time consuming effort of the City of Houston’s Maintenance Department during the warmer months, particularly during Spring Break. HPC has developed the program to promote park stewardship among elementary aged visitors to the park.

This program calls for volunteers to train visiting students on the impact litter has on Hermann Park. It also calls for providing teachers and bus drivers w/ specially printed trash bags to encourage students to bag their trash and put it in the proper places. The implementation of this program, patterned after the Fort Worth Clean City school program, will drastically reduce the amount of litter with in Hermann Park.

For information on volunteer opportunities, please contact Barbara Jo Harwell at 713.524.5876 ext. 338 or barbara_jo@hermannpark.org
